Ann Phillips

This appointment is from1 September 2025 to 28 February 2027.

Ann Phillips is a leading charity lawyer with over 30 years’ experience. She has advised charities nationally and internationally on charity law issues including significant large-scale projects and complex technical issues. From 2011 to 2014, she served as Chair of the Charity Law Association, leading its work contributing to developments in charity law and practice. She was a Partner of Stone King LLP for almost 20 years, latterly as its Chair. She retired as a Partner in 2020 and is now a Consultant with the firm. She has held a number of charity trusteeships and other voluntary sector roles.

Pippa Britton OBE

This appointment is from 26 September 2025 to 25 September 2028.

Pippa Britton is a double Paralympian who competed on the GB archery team for 15 years and who represented the Welsh able-bodied team on more than 20 occasions. Whilst competing she became the first para-archery athlete committee member at World Archery, representing archers all over the world, and after retiring from competing was inspired by this to move into governance. She is currently the Chair of Public Health Wales.

Previous roles have been Vice Chair of Sport Wales, the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and UK Anti-Doping (where she was also chair of the Audit and Risk Committee). She has held a number of voluntary roles, from Chair of Disability Sport Wales, Vice Chair of the British Paralympic Association, Archery GB Board member, Wheelchair Advisory Group at International Rugby League and International Paralympic Committee Anti-Doping Committee member.

Remuneration and Governance Code

Board members are remunerated at a rate of £350 per day for approximately 24 days a year. This appointment is not pensionable. These appointments have been made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments. The appointments process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Under the Code, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years must be declared. This is defined as including holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation, or candidature for election. Ann Philips and Pippa Britton have not declared any significant political activity.

DCMS has around 400 regulated Public Appointment roles across 42 Public Bodies including Arts Council England, Theatres Trust, the National Gallery, UK Sport and the Gambling Commission. We encourage applications from talented individuals from all backgrounds and across the whole of the United Kingdom.  To find out more about Public Appointments or to apply visit the HM Government Public Appointments Website or follow us on LinkedIn.
