Granary Square located at the top of King’s Boulevard, on the banks of Regent’s Canal. This magnificent public square serves as the heart of King’s Cross. The square, built where barges once unloaded their cargo, is animated with over 1,000 choreographed fountains, each individually controlled and illuminated! The fountains are breathtaking, especially at night.
If you don’t have kids, you can offer to babysit so you can join them in the 1,000 spraying fountains. On a sunny day, the place is full of children running and jumping through the dancing water jets. There are restaurants around the square with outdoor seating and Ruby Violet, a fantastic ice cream and sorbet shop, is just a short walk away. If you’re in town until August 7, look out for free screenings at the open-air cinema by the canal.
From the square, wide, south-facing stairs lead down to the canal. During the summer, the area is completely covered in greenery, making it an ideal place to relax and watch the boats pass by. Visit for lunch with friends at one of the fantastic restaurants lining the square. Bring the kids, or just sit back and look at the details of the world-renowned art school, Central Saint Martins.
