Three people have been taken to hospital after shots were fired by a moped rider in south London, the Metropolitan police said.
Police were seen chasing the bike through Clapham after the incident on Friday afternoon. The firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was discharged from the vehicle in the Clapham Common area.
Two people were injured by shotgun pellets and the moped injured a third person. Police said the suspects fled the scene and were still at large. None of the injuries were thought to be life-threatening.
A moped could be seen left on the pavement on Clapham Common South Side, while forensics were working in and around the Belle Vue pub. A Met spokesperson said: “A crime scene is in place and urgent inquiries to trace the moped are ongoing. There have been no arrests at this stage.”
Paramedics arrived at the scene and took the victims to hospital. The London ambulance service said in a statement: “We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, operational managers, advanced paramedics and London’s air ambulance.
“We treated three people at the scene and took two to a London major trauma centre and one to hospital.”
Armed police continued to search the area and several roads were cordoned off.
A local barber said he was left “shocked” after hearing the shooting. Kaka, 34, told PA Media: “I was in the shop just before 5pm and I heard a gunshot up the road. We were all shocked because it was so close. The police were everywhere afterwards.”
