Passengers from the UK are advised to check with their airlines before departure.
Escalating conflict in the Middle East is causing major disruptions to international air transport, and the effects are being felt directly in the UK. Thousands of flights have been canceled in recent days due to the closure of airspace in the region, and passengers with scheduled flights to Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Israel or Bahrain are advised to check their bookings urgently.
The situation is constantly changing and airlines update their operations from hour to hour.
Thousands of races cancelled
According to data provided by flight monitoring platforms, more than 2,000 flights were canceled on Monday alone, after nearly 2,800 cancellations on Saturday and more than 3,100 on Sunday.
Dubai, considered the world’s busiest international hub, remains heavily affected. The percentage of cancellations is also high in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Israel and Bahrain.
Flightradar24’s director of communications, Ian Petchenik, warned that the suspensions “will increase as the crisis continues” and that the impact on the aviation industry will be significant.
Airlines with suspended operations
Affected operators include Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, but the list is much wider and includes European and international companies.
Several flights from UK airports have been canceled or rerouted, with airports such as Manchester saying all flights to the affected region are “potentially subject to cancellation”.
Even companies that do not operate directly in the closed areas have been affected by route changes and restricted airspace.
Global chain effects
The closure of key air corridors between Europe, Asia and Australia has ripple effects globally. Passengers have been stranded at airports in Asia, Europe and South America, and many flights are fully booked due to rerouting.
Travel industry consultants warn that if the situation drags on, the economic impact on airlines and tourism will be considerable.
Over 1,000 Romanians stuck in the region
In this context, over 1,000 Romanian citizens are in the Middle East, and some of them are affected by flight cancellations and delays.
Many travelers were transiting through the major hubs of Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi, and flight cancellations forced them to reorganize their journeys.
British authorities have announced that more than 100,000 UK citizens are blocked.
What should passengers do?
UK authorities and airports recommend:
- check the flight status directly on the airline website
- monitoring of messages received by email or SMS
- avoiding travel to the airport without flight confirmation
- contacting the airline operator for rerouting or rescheduling
The situation remains uncertain and the flight schedule can be changed at any time.
