The front of Claridges hotel in London with union jack flags flying above and a doorman outside

As somebody who is – both financially and emotionally – extremely invested in London’s bakery scene; the news of a brand new bakery arriving in the capital city was always going to capture my attention. But what has particularly piqued my interest is that the new bakery in question is being opened by one of London’s most legendary hotels, Claridge’s.

Perched proudly in the heart of Mayfair, Claridge’s opened its big, fancy doors in 1856 – and has become one of the most sought-after spots in town since then. And now the luxury hotel is embarking on a new venture, and opening its very own bakery. How dough-lightful?

Set to open its doors this summer, Claridge’s Bakery will be led by internationally-acclaimed baking-buff, Richard Hart. Celebrating the art of British baking, Claridge’s Bakery will specialise in British classics and will ‘nourish the neighbourhood’ with the mouthwatering likes of jam and custard tarts, Belgian buns, iced fingers, bloomers, granary loaves and sourdough bread.

Richard Hart said: “I am excited and honoured to be the executive baker and creative director at Claridge’s Bakery. My goal is to celebrate timeless British baked favourites in one of the most notable British institutions. Bread and baked goods are an everyday staple that brings people together and I can’t wait to share my take on it with Londoners and visitors to the capital.”

Simon Attridgeculinary director at Claridge’sadded: “The team look forward to opening Claridge’s Bakery and to be working with Richard Hart, a highly acclaimed, prestigious name in the world of food. Introducing a brand-new space in the hotel that offers things to take home, as well as providing baked goods for the whole hotel, is a significant moment for Claridge’s.”

Claridge’s Bakery is set to open on Brook’s Mews, W1K 4HR in ‘late summer 2025’.
