There is perhaps no pizza topping more vehemently debated than pineapple. Detractors decry the presence of the fruit on their pizza, while fans love the combination of sweet and savoury flavours. But a group of Neapolitan pizzerias wants to change the polarising topping’s reputation. They’ve cooked up their own pineapple-topped pizza that they’re so confident in, they’re giving it away for FREE. Even if you’re a hater – are you really going to say no to free pineapple pizza?
Handmade typically serves up pretty traditional pizzas, but their Head Pizza Master, Antonio Braccio, is shaking things up. It has long been his dream “to deliver a special pizza that features pineapple which will be celebrated.” And now, after “some resistance from some of (the) (mainly Italian) team” he’s finally being allowed to spotlight the ingredient. The result is the Nice misfortunea limited-edition pie that hit menus yesterday (February 17) and will be available for just six weeks.
The pizza comes topped with black pepper pancetta, mozzarella, chilli-roasted pineapple, Ventricina spicy salami, spices, red chillies, ‘nduja hot honey, chives, and 24-month aged Parmesan. Oh yeah, this ain’t just any old pineapple pizza. The Nice misfortune is here to change the mind of even the most ardent pineapple-on-pizza critic.
Free pineapple pizza
So, how can you get your hand on one of the special pizzas for free? It’s easy. Just bring a pineapple!
To celebrate the new pizza, Fatto a Mano is giving away the pizza for free to anyone who goes into their pizzerias with a pineapple. Hand it over, and you’ll net yourself a free pineapple pizza. It really is as easy as that… It’s available for eat-in only, but besides that, there’s no catch and no time restrictions!
And don’t worry – they’re not just taking the pineapples and chucking them in the bin. The fresh pineapples will be cooked down and used in the pizzerias to top the special pies and excess fruit will be donated to local food banks.
Fatto a Mano has three locations in London. You can find them in Bethnal Green, Covent Garden, and King’s Cross. All three locations are participating in the ‘disgraceful’ pizza promotion. They also have locations across Brighton and Hove if you find yourself in the area, pineapple in hand…
The Bella Disgrazia is available for six weeks. Find out more here.
