This spring, the group responsible for the Michelin-recommended Pelican in Notting Hill and Bull in Charlbury will launch their third pub.
Phil Winser and James Gummer, along with Oliver van Themsche, who heads Public House group business and acquisitions, are teaming up to revive the hero in London’s Maida Vale.
The Hero was previously run by chef Henry Harris as part of the Harcourt Inns portfolio, and before that it was called the Truscott Arms.
The pub has a fresh iteration of British comfort food and cask ales on the ground floor, and the Grill Room upstairs specializes in meat and fish cooked over an open fire.
On the second floor, guests can enjoy cocktails and bartender nights, while the top floor is designated as an event space.
Winser and Gummer collaborated with executive chef Ed Baillieu to create a menu that includes dishes such as four-quarter cod with brown butter and lamb chops with mint and peas.
“Pubs provide us with the perfect setting to showcase the incredible production and farming practices we have here in the UK, and this continues to inform our menu,” Gummer said.
Both Pelikaan and Härkä have been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmands award, which recognizes them for their combination of good value for money and high-quality cooking.
Dating back to 1878, The Hero has been meticulously restored by the team. It has retained and restored its original Victorian features after a thorough demolition process.
