Located in South East London, this ‘pub’ has been nominated as one of the best in the UK

The finalists for the SIBA Business Awards 2026 have been announced and a South East London pub has appeared on the list. The SIBA Business Awards showcase independent breweries, taprooms, retailers, pubs and beer industry businesses in the UK. In the running for the UK’s Best Independent Beer Bar or Pub in a City, the Green Goddess in Blackheath has been nominated.

The Green Goddess describes itself as a ‘beer café’ and microbrewery. The Green Goddess is built into a former Barclays Bank on Vanbrugh Park. It serves around 21 different beers and ciders by the cask. It was opened in 2022 by Stephen and Maryann O’Connor.

Andy Slee, SIBA Chief Executive said: ““The businesses revealed as finalists in the SIBA Business Awards 2026 have shown judges just how exciting, vibrant and important the independent brewing industry really is in the UK.”

Guests have spoken about the inclusive nature of the venue, crediting The Green Goddess for being welcoming to all, including children.

One person said: “First time in Blackheath and an instantly gentler, less frantic vibe than in Central London. This is a fab pub. Really well laid out, excellent beer choice and great service.”

Another said: “Quaint and inclusive little place! They also had wine and cider on tap. The staff were very welcoming and kind towards us & they had a solid variety of beers on tap. Any place that does beer flights is a 5 in my books!”

In 2025, Belfast pub Bullhouse Brew Co won the award for Best Independent Beer Bar or Pub. This year’s awards will see The Green Goddess compete with Fell Northern Quarter in Manchester, Old Grey Mare in York and The Coach in Bridgend.

The awards will be taking place in Liverpool on Wednesday, March 18. The Green Goddess can be found at 43a Vanbrugh Park, SE3 7AA.
