A brand new staging of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice will have its world premiere at HOME Manchester this Christmas, running from 27 November 2026 to 2 January 2027.
Presented by James Seabright, the family musical features a book and lyrics by Richard Hough and music by Alexander S. Bermange, with direction by Kirk Jameson.
Set beneath the glowing Northern Lights, the story relocates the legendary tale to a Scandinavian town on the edge of collapse. To save Midgard from disaster, a powerful sorcerer and his apprentice must learn to work together as magic spirals out of control.
 
 
 
 
Audiences can expect brooms brought to life, misfiring spells and a coming‑of‑age journey for Eva, the apprentice whose newfound abilities unleash chaos and possibility in equal measure.
The musical draws inspiration from Goethe’s original poem, later immortalised in Disney’s Fantasiaand receives a gender‑swapped update brought to life by a cast of ten. The work was first seen as a digital production in 2021, earning international acclaim.
This new version features additional songs and an expanded score by Bermange, whose work includes I Wish My Life Were Like a Musicaland marks Jameson’s return to HOME following Song From Far Away starring Will Young.
Producer Suzette Le Sueur said: ‘The best tribute we can pay Dada is to keep her work alive.’
