The Royal Mint has released a range of Star Wars coins to celebrate the iconic Millennium Falcon. The spaceship’s design inspired the coins, with the release marking the ship’s first appearance on a British coin.
Created in collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm, the coin’s reverse design features images straight from the Lucasfilm library. There is also a special lens shape that displays the Rebel Alliance’s Starbird logo and an icon of the Millennium Falcon itself on most of the coins.
The cheapest of the new coins is the 50p Brilliant Uncirculated Coin, which costs £12. You can also get it as part of a £48 collection, where you’ll get the next three editions of Star Wars coins sent to your door when they’re released.
The Royal Mint has also released a color version of the 50p coin, which costs £21. Only 20,000 of these 50p coins have been made.
You can also get the 50p coin struck in sterling silver, finished to Proof standard and presented in an acrylic block for £71. There are only 7,500 of the edition available.
You can also get 1oz, 2oz and 5oz silver proof coins for £103.50, £195 and £487.50 respectively. And on the more expensive side of the range, the Royal Mint has released gold proof coins.
Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the numismatic return of the Star Wars series with a series of coins dedicated to its iconic vehicles. We are delighted to excite new and existing coin collectors worldwide and capture the imagination of Star Wars’ thriving fan base.”
Other coins launching in 2024 will include TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Death Star II. The Mint first released a series of Star Wars coins last year to celebrate Return of the Jedi’s 40th anniversary. They included coins featuring Han Solo and Chewbacca and Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.
