About the The Other Palace
The Other Palace, formerly the St James Theatre, has two separate performance spaces and is well-known for its diverse theatre programme, which provides a platform for new productions. As St James Theatre, the venue made its debut with a production of Bully Boy, a play by writer, comedian and former Great British Bake-Off host, Sandi Toksvig. The building is designed by Foster Wilson Architects and first opened in 2012 on the site of the Westminster Theatre, which was demolished after significant fire damage in 2002.
In 2017, the renovated venue reopened as The Other Palace, after Andrew Lloyd Webber purchased the building in 2016. Lloyd Webber later sold the venue during the global Coronavirus pandemic in 2021, a decision that he described as “heart-wrenching”. It was purchased by theatre and film producer Bill Kenwright.
The Other Palace is known for hosting new and exciting productions, including the UK premieres of musicals such as Urinetown, Eugenius!, Heathers: The Musical, Falsettos, Amélie the Musical and Be More Chill.
