HUAWEI just launched its most advanced smartwatch yet – introducing the Watch 5.

The new wearable is packed with highend tech and is essentially a onestop health MOT for your wrist. It boasts a robust build, lengthy battery life and an innovative new ‘XTap’ sensor (which gives you key health metrics at the tap of a finger) – all wrapped up in a super sleek design.

It works with both Android and iOS devices, making it a great alternative to watches that are locked to a single operating system. It connects quickly and allows you to make calls without using your phone, thanks to eSIM technology. Plus, upgraded builtin navigation helps you accurately track your workouts, wherever you are.

Here’s everything you need to know about this stateoftheart wearable.

HUAWEI Watch 5

Prices start from £399.99, but if you shop the Watch 5 direct from the HUAWEI website before 29 June, you’ll get £50 off, along with a free watch strap.

Your health at your fingertips

The Watch 5 introduces an ‘XTap’ fingerprint sensor, which sits on the side of the device. It’s designed to be a onestop “health MOT”, giving you instant access to key health data. It even detects your touch and pressure levels when you push your fingertip against it, helping to improve the speed and accuracy of health measurements.

The sensor measures up to 11 metrics in 60 seconds. Which means you can easily fit in a health check right before bed, while waiting for the kettle to boil or as you queue for your morning coffee.

So, what does it cover exactly? As well as basic health updates (heart rate, blood oxygen, stress, skin temperature), it can report on both cardiovascular and respiratory health. It tracks your heart rate and will conduct an ECG (electrocardiogram) to detect irregularities in your heart’s electrical activity.

It will also give you feedback on your blood vessel health, sleep quality and heart rate variability (HRV), providing stress and recovery insights. It’s all very clever and, more importantly, there to help you build healthier habits.

Personalised insights and tracking

If you’re not sure what all your health data means, you’re not alone! But the Watch 5 is here to help. It analyses your results and delivers personalised advice if it detects anything unusual for you, focusing on heart health and sleep patterns.

The XTap sensor also unlocks realtime blood oxygen measurement. That’s particularly helpful if you need to monitor your respiratory condition or are in a lowoxygen or highaltitude environment.

HUAWEI says its continuous blood oxygen tracking is not only an industryfirst, but that the 10second readings are the fastest of any smartwatch.

The Watch 5 is also a highly capable activity tracker, with support for over 100 sports modes, whether you’re into crosscountry running, skiing, swimming, hiking, golfing, or free diving! You get actionable tips for everyday health and fitness tracking, along with a helpful sleep score, activity rings for motivation and a detailed understanding of longterm trends.

A stylish and durable design

Some smartwatches can look a bit too “techy”, but the Watch 5 has a timeless look that works wherever you are, from the gym to the office.

Lighter and stronger than previous HUAWEI models, it blends an elegant design with durability and advanced features. It’s available in two sizes – 42mm and 46mm – and comes in either aerospacegrade titanium or supertough stainless steel, with a choice of gorgeous colourways, including a subtle titanium purple and a unique “sand gold” steel hue.

There’s a detailed sapphire glass display, super slim borders (only 1.8mm) that give it a modern look with a large display area, and dazzling new “LTPO 2.0” screen technology to give it a huge brightness increase. It’s perfect for clear viewing, even in bright sunlight.

HUAWEI’s new intuitive gesture control also offers a handsfree way to control the watch. A simple “double tap” or “double slide” with your thumb and forefinger lets you click onscreen buttons or dismiss alerts onehanded. It’s a convenient way to control music playback or turn off a timer, especially if your other hand is holding shopping bags or a coffee cup!

Longlasting battery performance

You’re not going to be tied to your charger with the HUAWEI Watch 5. It offers two battery modes to keep you covered: a Standard mode and UltraLong mode.

In Standard mode, you’ll get up to three days of use on the 42mm watch, or 4.5 days on the 46mm size. The UltraLong mode extends battery life to 11 days on a single charge. Need some extra juice, quick? The Watch 5’s fast charge will restore your battery to full in just 60 minutes (42mm) or 90 minutes (46mm).
