A crowd of people gathered round a man playing the piano in a bar in Soho

Look, I don’t like to draw attention to it, but I did go to drama school. And so there are very few things that excite me more than the prospect of taking my vocal chords out of retirement, and being given the opportunity to belt out show tunes outside of the confines of my shower curtain. Offering me up that opportunity in spades is The Room Where It Happens; the sparkly new musical theatre bar that’s recently landed on Greek Street.

Proudly perched at the top of a recently transformed Soho townhouse (that was once a historic haunt of Oscar Wilde), this outrageously stagey spot offers musical theatre enthusiasts the – quite frankly – perfect way to spend an evening in the capital city. A wonderful amalgamation of old-school elegance and exciting late-night abandon; The Room Where It Happens is quintessential Soho – and a secret spot, well worth stumbling upon.

Breathing new life into the previously quiet Soho space, this joyfully immersive bar is the answer to our stagey prayers. From Thursdays to Saturdaysshow-tune lovers and musical fanatics can gather around the piano and belt their hearts out. The deliciously dramatic venue is decked out with green velvet, stained-glass windows, and flickering candles – offering up the perfect surroundings for Londoners and beyond to channel their inner thespians.

From 5pm, visitors can expect to be serenaded by professional actors serving as singing waiters. And then from 9pm, the resident pianist will take their seat, and a simply joyous singalong will begin. Punters can request their favourite show tune and then sing along like no-one (or everyone) is watching.

The Room Where It Happens serves up a fittingly theatrical cocktail menufeaturing drinks as strong and bold as the musicals and performers that inspired them. There’s also a delicious dinner menu, jam-packed with small plates and larger dishes. And on Saturdays, they host the stagiest bottomless brunch in town. For £45 per person, you can enjoy two hours of fizz, mojitos or mocktails and munch on beloved brunch classics.

Adding a sensational sprinkling of showbiz sparkle to the streets of Soho, The Room Where It Happens is a room well-worth being in, as far as I’m concerned.

📍 You’ll find The Room Where It Happens at 5 Greek Street, W1D 4DD.
