If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to upgrade your ereader, Amazon’s Prime Day sale is it. The event is in full swing, and I’ve spotted that the 2024 Kindle Paperwhite is currently 26% off, dropping from £159.99 to just £118.74 – its lowestever price.

With holidays, beach reads, and latenight pageturners ahead, there’s no better time to grab a device built for distractionfree reading, indoors or out.

If you’ve been struggling to bring loads of books in your luggage, a Kindle makes a real difference – I swear by mine for reading on the go and around the home. It’s always on my bedside and I love how its battery lasts for weeks and weeks.

I’ve tested every Kindle model Amazon has released since 2018, and I’ve been using the brand’s ereaders since 2011, so you can trust me when I say that the latest Kindle Paperwhite is my favourite. It hits the sweet spot between portability and premium features.

So, while I’d also recommend the compact Kindle (more on that in a moment), the Paperwhite tends to be the pick I suggest to most people; it has a stunning 6.8inch glarefree display, weeks of battery life, an adjustable warm light, faster page turns, storage for thousands of books and USBC charging – and that’s all wrapped up in a device that’s waterproof, so you can read at the poolside or in the bath without worrying about water damage.

The addition of adjustable warmth in the backlight makes it a fantastic pick for late night reading, where this is more comfortable on the eyes. If you’re fine without it, though, the entrylevel Kindle is also a fantastic option in Amazon’s sale, especially as it’s also down to it’s lowest ever price too, now £71.24 rather than £94.99 – a 24% price cut.

The differences? Firstly, the Paperwhite weighs in at 211g, compared to the 158g of the compact Kindle, which has a 6inch display. Essentially, the smaller one is far easier to use onehanded, and it still has a highresolution glarefree screen and massive battery life, but you’ll miss out on the waterproofing of the Paperwhite and its adjustable warm light.

I recommend both, and I’m confident either pick makes for one of the best possible ereaders you can buy in 2025. Now’s the time to buy if you want to snap up either of these deals, though.

Other Kindle deals

The core Kindle models aren’t the only ones discounted in Amazon’s sale this year. There are also deals on Kids Kindles.

Right now, you can get the basic Kindle Kids for £85.49 (that’s 26% off, down from £114.99) and the Kindle Paperwhite Kids for £134.99, which is 21% off and much lower than its normal price of £169.99.

Both versions come with a protective cover, a 6month subscription to Amazon Kids Plus, and a twoyear worryfree guarantee. If it breaks, Amazon will sort you out with a replacement. Like the Kindles made for adults, these are easytouse ereaders, all with backlit screens, space for thousands of books and weeks of battery.

We’ve also spotted discounts on both the 2022 and 2024 releases of the Kindle Scribe, which are the best Kindles for notetakers, with cloudsynced notebooks and much larger displays. At the moment, you can grab the latest Kindle Scribe for 29% off at £267.99 (RRP: £379.99) or the 2022 Kindle Scribe for £199.99 – this is the first time it’s been under £200!

When does Amazon Prime Day end in 2025?

Remember that Amazon Prime Day deals run only until 11 July, and you’ll need a Prime membership to take advantage. Luckily, a free trial counts! So don’t wait too long if you’ve been meaning to upgrade your reading experience.
