Back to the BBC: A Sunday Feast at The Broadcaster, White City
White City was once the bustling hub of BBC brilliance at the iconic Television Centre. This architectural grand dame, with its unmistakable doughnut-shaped façade, now plays host to The Broadcaster, a chic, multi-level pub and dining experience that boasts a touch of modern glamour across four floors. Head to the fourth floor bar and you’ll get a fabulous view. Conveniently located opposite West London’s popular shopping hub Westfield, it’s an ideal spot to refuel after some consumerist cardio or simply revel in West London’s evolving swagger. As a local myself, the promise of a stylish Sunday lunch so close to home was too tempting to resist.
Outside, a leafy terrace offers a green oasis for sunnier days, but in the depths of winter, the inviting warmth of The Broadcaster’s ground-floor restaurant beckons. When I visited, a twinkling Christmas tree added a festive shimmer to the space.
Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the room in natural light, even on the gloomiest of afternoons, highlighting the tasteful interplay of textures: wooden floors, sleek contemporary furniture, brass-and-zinc tabletops, and leather-backed chairs.
Sunday lunch at The Broadcaster is a relaxed affair, perfect for catching up with friends or spending quality time with family. Their menu offers something for everyone, from herb-fed chicken breast and aged Dexter beef to a mushroom and beetroot Wellington. For those in the mood to share, the show-stopping roast features slow-roasted pork belly accompanied by heritage carrots, buttered cabbage, duck fat roast potatoes, Suffolk chorizo mac & cheese, apricot and herb stuffing, and a rich apple cider jus. Other mains extend the variety, ensuring there’s no shortage of tempting options.
Beer-battered Cornish hake delivers a golden classic, while the roast Ironbark pumpkin risotto offers rich vegetarian comfort. Seafood options include roasted stone bass and grilled Yellowfin tuna, while meat lovers can enjoy a 32-day dry-aged beef burger or a perfectly grilled Dexter sirloin or ribeye.
The drinks menu boasts a well-rounded selection of cocktails, wines, beers, and ciders, alongside a variety of soft drinks. For those in the mood to add some sparkle to their Sunday, there’s the option of a free-flowing bubbly lunch, featuring prosecco or mimosas for 90 minutes – available when ordered by the whole table (£24pp). It’s the perfect way to elevate a leisurely afternoon with a touch of indulgence.
We kicked things off with a selection of shareable starters, each as pretty as they were delicious. The heritage beetroot carpaccio, finely sliced and paired with creamy goat’s cheese and burnt orange candied walnuts, was a subtle yet elegant combination of flavours. Equally good was the British burrata with girolles and Wiltshire truffle toast – oozingly fresh, lusciously creamy, and elevated by just the right sprinkle of fragrant truffle.
From the wine list, a bottle of Albariño, O Fillo da Condesa, a crisp, vibrant wine with citrus, green apple, and subtle floral notes, balanced by refreshing minerality and a lingering, salty finish.
Eager to try one of The Broadcaster Sunday roasts, I chose the herbed chicken breast, which was perfectly cooked and paired with flavourful stuffing. The roast potatoes were crisp and golden (and, if you’re hungry enough, you can indulge in as many as you like), while the Yorkshire pudding was delightfully airy. Sweet carrots and vibrant, lush greens completed the dish, making for a well-rounded and satisfying Sunday lunch.
My companion was in the mood for fish and raved about the generous portion of grilled Yellowfin tuna, served in rich lemon butter. It was perfectly complemented by fresh, crisp slithers of fennel, kohlrabi, and a tangy hint of orange, all adding a refreshing crunch to the dish. On the side a dish of creamed spinach laced with smoked cheddar and a crunchy sourdough crumb.
We ended the meal with an excellent British cheese board, served with apple and raisin chutney and crisp crackers. And since it was Sunday and the pressure was off, we opted for espresso martinis instead of coffee. It was the perfect way to conclude a fantastic meal.
