If possible, I’d suggest that you get your VPN for China chosen, downloaded, and installed before you go there. That way, you won’t run into any difficulties accessing the websites of the providers themselves. If you’re already in China and want to install a VPN, I recommend first downloading The Onion Router (TOR) and using it in conjunction with a Shadowsocks proxy to access VPN sites and purchase a subscription. Some VPN services even have dedicated .onion websites to help people get around censorship and government firewalls.
You can then download and install the VPN through TOR and you’re all set up to go. Simply connect to the server of your choice and browse in total security and privacy.
