There is a unique feeling you get when behind the wheel of a Land Rover. Authoritative, dominant and in control, they command the road in a way few other cars do. They also command mud tracks, hills and anything else you throw at them. The Land Rover has crossed continents and chaperoned royalty, which is part of the appeal. You can do anything in one, whether you find yourself piloting a Series II or a luxurious Range Rover SV.
“For me, there is nothing that quite compares to that feeling you get when behind the wheel of a Land Rover,” says Merlin McCormack, founder of Duke of London. “It is such a difficult thing to articulate, but you cannot help but just feel special when at the helm. A lot of it comes from the robustness of the build quality which instils a sort of ‘anything is possible’ frame of mind, and also the seating position. There is bound to be some sort of psychological or hierarchical mindset impact from being sat so high up with such great visibility. King of the castle, if you will.”
This is something the world of celebrity knows well. As the mid-season refresh of the Range Rover Evoque and Velar have just dropped, we thought it an apt time to look at which celebrities love their Defenders, Series IIs and Autobiographies.
Bruce Springsteen – Range Rover L322
American icon Bruce Springsteen doesn’t mess around with his Range Rover. Like his clothes, which he keeps simple – think denim shirts, jeans and plaid shirts – Springsteen’s L322 is a no-fuss modern classic. “The older iterations and even now L322 models reek of luxury and have such a classless presence,” says McCormack. “They are phenomenal machines to pilot, and moreover, buying one today doesn’t break the bank.”
