There’s something about the breakneck speed and teeth-pulling stress of a kitchen that translates perfectly to television. That and, of course, the end result: beautiful plates of food. The Bear has a hefty portion of all these components, but its visceral commentary on grief, trauma, family, and the fight each day to remain afloat, both in the mind and the workplace, is why it has connected with so many; becoming what is widely viewed as one of the best shows around right now.
While the ending of season two left us assuming we would get a third season, confirmation was still lacking. Now, any worries have been alleviated, with wishes for The Bear to come back to our screens given a clear cut “yes, chef!” by FX/Hulu this week.
Production has not yet begun for the hit show, but it’s hoped that the the new season will be ready to go sooner than one might think. Season two dropped on Disney Plus in the UK in July this year, and was instantly lapped up. Here’s what we know about season three so far.
When is ‘The Bear’ season three coming out?
There is no release date set for the third installment, though it is expected to drop at some point in 2024 once production is all cooked up. The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which has run for 117 days, could delay the start to the show, with the union still protesting against issues, like the use of AI.
What characters are coming back for ‘The Bear’ season three?
(-spoiler alert-)
Fresh off his GQ Men Of The Year cover story, Jeremy Allen White will return as Carmy Berzatto—the show’s combustible, bruised and passionate protagonist who won’t go down without a fight. His cousin-that-isn’t-really-his-cousin Ritchie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) is also due to make a return (potentially still belting out Taylor Swift in his car, wearing a suit to the restaurant, and spurring Carmy on to keep working on himself after the fractious end to season two. Ayo Edebiri is continuing her role as chef Sydney, one of the show’s most beloved character, no doubt poised to leave her mark on the chaos of the new restaurant’s kitchen after winning the approval of her father following a vomit-inducing first shift in the season finale. Will season three be ‘the thing’ in his eyes? That remains to be seen, but until then, just don’t forget to dramatically shout ‘CORNER’ at any opportunity to avoid a potential disaster.
Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, said: “The Bear, which wowed audiences in its first season only to achieve even greater heights in season two, has become a cultural phenomenon.
“We’re so proud to partner with Christopher Storer, Joanna Calo, Josh Senior, and the rest of the creative team, as well as the brilliant cast led by Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. What they and the crew have done is truly remarkable, and we and our partners at Hulu join fans in looking forward to the next chapter in the story of The Bear.”
As the kitchen is a tight-knit unit, we’d also expect to see the return of most of the key characters that make up The Bear. Project managing extraordinaire and Carmy’s sister Natalie aka ‘Sugar’ (Abby Elliot), dessert and Copenhagen-loving Marcus (Lionel Boyce), fiery sous-chef Tina (Liza Colón-Zayas), the wise and experienced Ebraheim (Edwin Lee Gibson) and the slapstick restaurant saviour Fak (Matty Matheson) should all be on the cards to feature, alongside other staples like Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt), Claire-Bear (Molly Gordon), and Pete (Chris Witaske).
Season two also saw a multitude of big-name cameos enter the fold, with the likes of Olivia Colman, Will Poulter, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Gillian Jacobs; so we can have high hopes for some more in the third season.
