Tesco will bring back its Kids Eat Free scheme to 315 cafes across the UK in the February half-year. The supermarket’s cafes will offer a free Kids’ Hot Meal Deal, Kids’ Breakfast or Kids Pick ‘n’ Mix deal with every item purchased by an adult from as little as 60p when they show their Tesco Clubcard at the till.
Popular menu items include beans or avocado on toast, fish fingers, baked chicken goujons or a sandwich. Hot main meals include a vegetable dish, and the pick ‘n’ mix sandwich includes a piece of fresh fruit and two snacks.
Jason Tarry, Tesco UK CEO, said: “We know that household budgets can be stretched over the school holidays, so offering free meals to children when they are off school is one of the ways we can support families during this time.”
In July 2023, Tesco launched Stronger Starts: a £5m grant programme, in partnership with Groundwork UK, to help schools and children’s groups provide nutritious food and healthy activities that support young people’s physical health and mental wellbeing, such as breakfast clubs or snacks, and equipment for healthy activities. Customers can support their local school and children’s groups by dropping the blue Tesco badge they receive at the till into the relevant ballot box when leaving the store.
To help with the cost of the half-term period, customers can also exchange their Clubcard vouchers with Tesco Reward Partners, including family favorites such as PizzaExpress and Cineword. A full list of all partners can be found here.
