I skated 4 is coming, but when exactly it will be released and how it will be a question for many die-hard fans.
More than ten years after the franchise’s last major release (2010s I skated 3), Electronic Arts (EA) is ready to return to the kickflipping franchise with a new release.
Originally reported in July 2022 as Skate. (colloquially known as I skated 4), the newest entrant in the series – coming from new EA studio Full Circle – is said to reinvent the beloved franchise.
When is Skate 4 coming out?
Although it has been in development for over four years, no release date has been announced I skated 4.
The last time fans heard of a possible release date was during EA’s 2022 earnings call, where the company simply listed the title as “coming soon” (via PCGamesN).
According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson – at the time – I skated 4 Is “launching soon” but that was over two years ago and there is no release date in sight:
“It will be the center of the design of the soon-to-be-launched ‘Skate.'”
In 2023, during the second quarterly earnings call, the game was dropped from EA’s fiscal release calendar (via Comicbook.com).
That would mean the game isn’t on the cards until at least after March 31st.
At this point, the players have gotten their hands on it I skated 4 – Through Full Circle’s extensive pre-release call test program – for over two years.
In June 2023, a new trailer for the game, aptly titled “Still Working On It”, showed a more finished look at the game than has been seen publicly to date.
This could mean that EA and Full Circle are closing in on a release, which could put the game in full release sometime in 2024.
Last Skate title, I skated 3came to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in June 2010, and I skated 4 could follow suit, which seems like the perfect summer game for fans to explore.
Or, if the team needs a bit more time, the title could potentially wait a few months until sometime in September to celebrate the 14th anniversary of the first title in the series.
In short, although nothing has been officially done yet, I skated 4 seems very likely to be released sometime in mid-2024.
Does Skate 4 have a story mode?
A sweeping story has never been the main focus here Skate franchise, and that seems to be the case when it comes down to it I skated 4.
Previous Skate The games have usually followed the player as their playable character goes from a rookie street skater to one of the biggest names in the sport, completing various challenges and competitions as they rise through the ranks.
There has been talk of challenges and such for players to complete, but that seems less and less likely I skated 4 there’s even a thinly veiled narrative that ties it all together.
Focus for Skate. appears to be more of a user-to-user interaction than an immersive single-player experience. This is not to say that there is no “story” content made by the development team.
One of the headlines Boardroom development diaries from April 2023 gave the first hint that the game has some kind of story, but the development team “(wasn’t) ready to talk about it (at the time).”
So it looks like the game will have some kind of story content; however, what that looks like remains to be seen.
See like I skated 4 is branded with the name “genuine evolution” (via the game’s announcement trailer) in a franchise that primarily focuses on online multiplayer, user-generated content, and experiencing skate culture with friends around the world. The story content of the game can be expected to be similar to that of an MMO (a la Destiny or World of Warcraft).
This will likely include an ever-growing collection of developer-made objectives, missions, and activities that you can enjoy either solo or (preferably) with fellow skaters.
Is Skate 4 Crossplay?
From day one I skated 4 cross-play on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Since the game was first announced, the title has focused on cooperation, regardless of where you play.
This is realized on screen through cross-play and progression regardless of the platform Skate. let’s play one. This allows for a seamless experience playing with friends despite the fact that you may be on different consoles.
Game director Cuz Parry told fans right at the start Boardroom in the development diary that the Full Circle team’s mission was to give players a chance “play on their favorite platforms the way they want.” and the best way to do that is in this shared skating world where everyone can play together:
“So, we want the whole world to fall in love with what we love. Skateboarding, culture, and gaming. Yeah, and based on that, we really want people to get the most value out of their gaming experience as possible, and be able to play on their favorite platforms the way they want. There’s going to be a perfect crossover and crossover progress.”
How much does Skate 4 cost?
Unlike previous games Skate concession, I skated 4 released for free for players who want to jump in.
Yes, this will be a completely free gaming experience Fortnite or Autumn guys.
This is an unprecedented move Skate. series, but one that matches the vision of this latest vert-shredding game.
EA and the developers of Full Circle have remained adamant that this won’t be the first Skate game queued for more upcoming ones, but instead a running platform (via Boardroom Episode 1):
“It’s not a reboot, a prequel; it’s not any of that. It’s not a remake or a remaster, whatever you can do. This is it, it’s ‘Skate’. We’re here for the long haul. That means we’re not an iterative title.” There’s not going to be a ‘Skate 5’ to 10. “We’re not pumping them out all the time. We’re going to do this.
This free-to-play model allows for a low barrier to entry, bringing a larger player base over time:
“We’ll listen to what you guys say over time and put the features you want on it. Okay, and again for those behind, it’s ‘Skate’. It’s NOT ‘Skate 4’. Just ‘skate’. Period. That’s why we put a little dot after that .”
According to Full Circle CEO Dan McCulloch (via Rock Paper Shotgun ), players can purchase microtransactions. However, there will be “no payment for winning items), no map areas locked behind a paywall, no paid loot boxes and no paid game perks.”
Head of Product Management Skate team Isabelle Mocquard added that these small purchases are what it’s all about “cosmetics and comfort,” doesn’t let those smaller purchases get in the way I skated 4 experience.
I skated 4 there’s no official release date, but gamers who want to dive in early can sign up now for playtests on the Electronic Arts website.
