The 81-year-old singer visited Irish pub McCafferty’s Bar in Tottenham Lane and was good enough to have his photo taken with the staff.

Sir Rod grew up nearby and went to school in the neighbourhood.

His family home was above his parents’ newsagents in Archway Road, Highgate and he went to school at Highgate Primary followed by William Grimshaw Secondary Modern – now Fortismere.

His dad Robert bought him his first guitar at 14, and he left school at age 15 to pursue a brief career in football before finding success as a global music icon.

In November Sir Rod was spotted at Highgate Wood Cafe where he was filming a documentary about his life and revisiting past haunts.

In the 1950s, the rocker’s dad ran the local lads’ football team on the pitch near the cafe.

Posting on Instagram the pub wrote: “We had a very special guest in the pub yesterday! ✨🍻

“The one and only 𝐑𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐭 popped into McCafferty’s Crouch End — an absolute legend and an honour to have him in the house 🎤⭐️

“Great company, great craic and a moment we won’t forget!” 🍀

Regulars responded with: “Wow!” and “he doesn’t look more than 60”.

McCafferty’s Bar was formerly called The Hope&Anchor and today it serves up screen sports, weekly live music, “an amazing atmosphere” and “the smoothest pint of Guinness.”

It’s part of a chain of pubs in Ireland, the UK and Spain of the same name and says on its website: “McCafferty’s Bar is a wonderful, authentic Irish pub situated in Tottenham Lane, London.

“This is a home from home for many Irish but yet still very popular with locals alike.

“We have many screens situated throughout the bar, making it the perfect go to spot for any major sporting events.”
