Married at first sight season 18 has just started, but there seems to be tension between some experts which has lingered for the past few seasons. The MAFS experts, who have rotated throughout the show but have remained in place for the past several seasons, are on hand to facilitate the show’s matchmaking process and then advise participants as they move through the trial. Although the experts all have experience in their field, it is clear that they have different areas of expertise during the experiment.

Dr. Pepper Schwartz, the panel’s longest-serving expert, works with Rev. Cal Roberson and Dr. Pia Holec to go through each season of applicants, connecting them to hopefully successful relationships and facilitating counseling as needed. While experts don’t guarantee that relationships will turn into lasting relationships, it’s clear that they want the marriages they match to work. However, there is only so much that professionals can do when a couple is not working, and they only have so much information to begin with. As the tension between the experts seems to rise, things can get complicated.

As the series’ longest-running expert, Dr. Pepper tends to be an authority figure Married at first sight. Dr. Pepper has been on the show all that time and has seen the best of the best and the worst of the matches that have been made on the show. Although some disagree with the way Dr. Pepper works in the series, he is usually the most reasonable and rational expert which takes into account the most important factors in making matches that theoretically work.

Based on the Danish version of the series, Married at First Sight is a reality show/social experiment that gives singles the chance to find a lifelong partnership with one caveat: they must agree to marry a stranger the moment they meet.
