Date: Saturday 9 November 2024

Time: 11.00am

Route: From The Mansion House via Cheapside and St Paul’s Cathedral to the Royal Courts of Justice

Celebrating the ordinary and extraordinary people of the , the oldest civic procession in the world – The Lord Mayor’s Show – will bring together over 7,000 people, 250 horses, and over 50 decorated floats on Saturday 9 November for a major spectacle dating back to the 13th century.

Joining the parade and riding in the golden State Coach, which has been used in every Lord Mayor’s Show since 1757, will be Alastair King, who was elected on Monday as the 696th Lord Mayor of the .

Cheered on by an estimated 350,000 people lining the City’s streets and millions watching the live BBC One coverage and online streaming, commentary will be provided by BBC news presenter, Mishal Husain.

Joining the Lord Mayor in the three-mile-long parade, which starts from his official residence, The Mansion House, at 11.00am, will be floats representing City charities, schools, community groups, musicians, performers, financial institutions, military bands, and Livery companies.

Alastair King is succeeding Seattle-born economist, accountant, and scientist, Professor Michael Mainelli as the head of the governing body of the Square Mile, the Corporation, and will serve for one year, living and working at The Mansion House.

During his mayoralty, the Lord Mayor will act as an international spokesperson for the City, leading business delegations overseas to key international markets, on behalf of the UK’s financial and professional services industry.

Lord Mayor Elect Alastair King said:

“The Lord Mayor’s Show is the soul of London – as unique as it is historic – and it will be a privilege to be at the heart of this wonderful event, which connects the traditions of London’s past to the modern-day world.

“As I wave to the crowds from the State Coach and soak up the Show’s carnival atmosphere, it will certainly feel like a celebration of the Square Mile’s dynamism and many communities.

“I have taken ‘Growth Unleashed’ as the theme of my mayoral year. I will focus on promoting business, encouraging firms to adopt the new technologies that give us competitive advantage, and to working with the dynamic communities which make London such a vibrant city in which to do business.”
