This autumn, nature enthusiasts and fans of the critically acclaimed BBC series Planet Earth III can look forward to an impressive show celebrating the wonders of nature, accompanied by live music performed by the world-famous city of Prague’s Philharmonic Orchestra.
Following the hugely successful Blue Planet II and Planet Earth II arena tours, Planet Earth III Live in Concert will thrill UK audiences in October with three special performances in London and Manchester.
London audiences will be the first in the UK to see the breathtaking new show with matinee and evening performances at OVO Arena Wembley on Saturday 5 October before traveling north to Manchester’s AO Arena on Sunday 6 October 2024.
Guaranteed an incredible live experience for all in attendance, concert promoters BBC Studios and FKP Scorpio Entertainment have also recently announced that Mike Gunton – Executive Producer of Planet Earth III and Creative Director of The Natural History Unit for BBC Studios – will be live hosting all three UK- based programs.
Mike has spearheaded the record-breaking Planet Earth II, which won four BAFTAs and an Emmy; the ground-breaking animal behavior series Dynasties; and explored the plant kingdom in The Green Planet.
With a reputation for excellent storytelling and innovation, Mike is instrumental in bringing new and ground-breaking stories about the natural world to a global audience.
What you can expect at the exhibition
Planet Earth III Live in Concert will captivate audiences with a curated selection of magnificent moments from the acclaimed television series of the same name on a 4K, high-definition LED screen, while the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra provides a stunning live soundtrack.
Throughout the concert, Mike will be the ultimate show guide, sharing behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the TV series, as well as guiding the audience through the incredible visual and musical experience.
Mike said: “Hosting the Planet Earth II Live in Concert tour was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. Seeing the awe-inspiring wonders of nature come to life on the huge screens, along with the emotional power of Hans Zimmer’s score performed by one of the most majestic orchestras is truly unforgettable.
“I can’t wait to do it again, on stage, for Planet Earth III Live in Concert, which promises to be even more spectacular in every way!”
Planet Earth II Live in Concert will transport the audience to the scorching heat of the Namib Desert in South Africa, where they will witness the devotion of a father ostrich as he cares for his unhatched young, before heading to the lush forests of Borneo where charismatic oriental embroidery. Hornbills take center stage.
With astonishing footage of leopards using their stealth and camouflage to secure prey as well, audiences will enter the many wonders of nature.
Later in the concert, the audience will be treated to a series of spectacular natural settings, meticulously captured by the inconspicuous television crew throughout the series.
From the majestic heights of the Canadian Arctic, where wolves plan to capture a bison, to the remarkable moment when a saiga antelope’s deception is caught on camera for the first time, each scene offers a glimpse into the extraordinary diversity of life on Earth.
The concert will also highlight the negative effects of human activity on the planet, while celebrating the heroes who have dedicated themselves to making a positive difference.
The TV series itself was shot over 1,904 days, in 43 countries and on six continents.
Mike Gunton added: “Planet Earth III is about the resilience and adaptability of nature, and the remarkable animals who transform their lives to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world dominated more than ever by one powerful force: us. It is full of surprise and wonder but seen from a new perspective.”
Planet Earth III Live in Concert will feature Emmy Award-nominated music by Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea and Sara Barone for Bleeding Fingers Music, performed by the renowned City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Matthew Freeman.
