January is a time when many feel the pinch after a December of festive celebration and gift-buying, and so anything that might normally seem to sway too far towards what might be considered a frivolous treat (like a few oysters) may seem far off the mind.
But, for the glummest day of the year (at least according to Science), The Seafood Bar is putting paid to the idea that you can’t shell out on oysters by serving them up for less than your bus fare to work for a day. Yes – come Blue Monday (January 20), you’ll be able to head on into the Soho bar to pick up an oyster for just £1.50.
I can already picture bounding along from the office on the dull January afternoon to fend off the Blue Monday demons following me and tapping the card for a cheap oyster to start lunchtime in the classiest of ways.
The Seafood Bar has been open at Dean Street since 2021, and happens to be their only location outside of The Netherlands. Once you’ve tucked into a £1.50. you might then be tempted to try out some other dishes – from French-style mussels to shrimps & langoustines to whole lemon soles – or at least plan what you’re going to eat on your next visit. And hey, if you find yourself there in the evening, you could do a hell of a lot worse than pairing your bargain oyster with their ‘Ocean Bloody Mary’.
Pick up an Oyster for just £1.50 in an offer that lasts all day throughout Blue Monday (January 20) at The Seafood Bar. Read more about them here and find them at 77 Dean Street, W1D 3SH (nearest stations Tottenham Court Road. The Seafood Bar is open between 12pm and 11pm.
