Stansted Express and Greater Anglia services are affected

A person has died after being hit by a train in North London during rush hour this morning (March 10). Emergency crews were called to Meridian Water station, in the Upper Edmonton area of Enfield, at 8.50am amid reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The injured person was declared dead at the scene. Their age and gender have not been made public at this stage.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, the British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed in a statement. A coroner’s file is now being prepared ahead of an inquest.

Services between Tottenham Hale and Cheshunt were suspended as police and paramedics worked, but have since resumed. However, major disruption is expected until at least 12.30pm, National Rail said.

Trains may be delayed by up to 45 minutes, revised or cancelled as the network recovers. This is affecting Greater Anglia trains between Liverpool Street and Hertford East, Cambridge and Cambridge North, and also between Stratford (London) and Meridian Water and Bishops Stortford.

Passengers may also encounter longer wait times on the Stansted Express from Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport. Tickets are being accepted on Great Northern, Thameslink, Tube and local bus services in the meantime.

A spokesperson for BTP said: “We were called to Meridian Water station at 8.50am this morning (Tuesday) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The London Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information.
