an enormous illuminated glass greenhouse at rhs wisley at night, lit up with a rainbow of colours

As the early sunsets take their toll (I’m hardly leaving the house after 4pm at this point), one gorgeous garden is bringing some Christmassy sparkle and light to the twilight hours. RHS Glow, the annual illuminations festival, has returned to Woking’s RHS Wisley gardenand it’s brightening up our long nights. It’s time to experience “the sparkle of the season”.

The garden is transformed by the magical illuminations every evening, from 4-9pm. The wintry display brings the garden’s plants and landscapes to life. There are hidden wonders waiting around every corner and down every path. It’s a truly enchanting mix of “dazzling colour, twinkling lights and festive cheer” that makes for the perfect Christmas day trip from the city.

RHS Glow is on display at RHS Wisley until January 4, 2026. Be sure to head on over to check it out before it’s gone!

The illuminations at RHS Glow

The garden makeover delights visitors with a blend of “radiant colour and festive fantasy”. The trees and plants have been decorated with fairy lights, and installations have been scattered around the grounds. These range from illuminated arched tunnels to lit-up walkwaysand of course, you’ll spot a Christmas tree or two along the way.

One of the highlights is RHS Wisley Glasshouse. They’ve festooned the site with lanterns, rainbow lights, and twinkling stars. And right outside, on the Glasshouse lake, visitors can enjoy a performance combining lights and fountains dancing across the lake.

Be sure not to miss the new-for-2025 marshmallow pits where you can toast marshmallows beneath the stars. And sate your hunger otherwise at the street food chalets or with the festive fare at the garden’s Terrace Restaurant.

RHS Wisley isn’t the only RHS garden to receive a stunning light-filled transformation in the winter. There are also RHS Glow events at RHS Bridgewater in Manchester, RHS Harlow Carr in Yorkshire, RHS Hyde Hall in Essex, and RHS Rosemoor in Devon.
