The three friends said an £8 sandwich is a ‘mad ting’

North Londoners have tried Gail’s Bakery for the first time, and they’re less than impressed. The controversial bakery is a symbol of gentrification to many – or just a great place for a cinnamon bun to others.

There are Gail’s north of the river, in spots like Spitalfields, Baker Street, and Bloomsbury. But there are also outlets in actual North London: on Pentonville Road, and in Kentish Town, to name two.

But some North Londoners are clearly new to the fancy café as they couldn’t believe their eyes when they entered the store on Junction Road, by Archway London Under Station. The trio from North London who visited the Gail’s, posting on @m.combe07 account, pointed out that before Gail’s moved in, the site was a corner shop and an ex-Subway, which they loved.

The three friends conceded they’ve ‘never been to Gail’s before,’ and boy were they shocked. The man filming was not impressed to see a ham, cheese, and pickle, challah knot for over eight quid. “£8.20… for that?! Mad ting,” he exclaimed. He was so shocked he had to show his friend, who was equally as bamboozled. “You’re violating,”

However, they liked the look of the blackberry and apple crumble cake, £5.30 to eat in. He came to the conclusion that he wanted to get ‘a cheese straw, a blackberry and apple crumble cake, and a hot chocolate, because why not?!’

The bill came to £7.40, as he somehow got the hot chocolate for free. However, he was startled by the size of the hot chocolate, which his friend sniggered at as he held his smartphone next to it for size comparison.

Instead of the food review happening inside Gail’s, they chose to do it on Islington’s Elthorne Estate. The hot chocolate went down well and was held in higher regard than the one at rival coffeeshop Jolene.

The cheese straw disappointed him, though, as he ‘wasn’t getting a lot of the cheese,’ prompting a 6/10 rating. The crumble proved to be the ‘star of the show’ and was a ‘straight 10.’ He reminded viewers that Gail’s trumps Jolene by telling us ‘Gail’s is Jolene Pro Max.’

But the blackberry and apple crumble cake was described as ‘the star of the show’ and ‘a straight 10’.
