New Musicals Coming To The West End In 2024
Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical
Following shows in New York and LA – not to mention a sold-out run at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival – Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical is set to arrive in London in 2024. Expect the film’s much-loved plot reimagined for the stage, with the addition of a whole host of ’90s hits from the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Boyz II Men.

Opening Night
A brand new musical is coming to the West End in spring 2024, with Sheridan Smith in the lead role. Written, directed and conceived by Ivo van Hove with music and lyrics by Rufus Wainwright, Opening Night is based on John Cassavetes’ legendary film following a theatre company’s preparations to stage a major new play on Broadway. But drama ignites behind the scenes when their leading lady is rocked by tragedy, and her personal turmoil forces everybody to deliver the performance of their lives.

Mean Girls
Get in, loser – we’re going to see Mean Girls make its West End debut. The cult noughties classic was given the theatrical treatment back in 2018, with a run on Broadway receiving glowing reviews. And now, the musical is coming to the West End. The show will closely follow the film’s storyline, as formerly home-schooled teenager Cady Heron tries to fit in at an American high school – only to fall in with the Plastics. Backed by new songs by Nell Benjamin and Jeff Richard, this shows is guaranteed to be totally fetch.

Just For One Day
History’s most famous concert is being reimagined as a London stage musical, debuting at The Old Vic in early 2024. The 1985 gig ran for 16 hours and was watched by over 160,000 people in person and over 1.5 billion people via the live broadcast. Curated by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise money and awareness for Ethiopian famine relief, the musical will chronicle the lead-up to the big day, showcasing how ‘the day rock ‘n’ roll changed the world’ came to be. Sister Act
Getting back in the habit for a limited run this year is Sister Act, the smash-hit musical based on the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg as nun-on-the-run Deloris van Cartier. The task of stepping into the shoes of Deloris this time round, however, will be a two-part affair – with Olivier Award winner Beverley Knight starring in the first half of the show’s run and pop icon Alexandra Burke picking up the second half.

Starlight Express
It’s official: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express is coming back to London. Taking over the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre with a specially designed Starlight Auditorium, audiences will be able to see the cast whizz amongst (and above) the stalls on roller-skates and perform the show’s iconic soundtrack. The story sees a children’s train set come to life, and race to become the fastest engine in the world.

The Devil Wears Prada
Seeing a musical? In London? Groundbreaking. Strutting its way into the West End in 2024 is none other than The Devil Wears Prada, a new musical adapted from the infamous Book and film of the same name. Spearheaded by Sir Elton John, the musical rendition has been in the works since 2017.
