The Canadian, who moved to Camden in 2021, says one-to-one support is about far more than improving grades – it is about helping students rebuild confidence.

Now he has launched Tutor Doctor, a service that links a network of tutors with children to help them achieve more, in Camden.

Mr Marchese said: “While studying at university in Canada, I started working as a tutor where I saw first-hand the impact personalised tutoring could have on young people.

“It didn’t have to all be about improving grades. A lot of the time, progress was helping a student regain their confidence.”

He recalled one student who “really hated school.” He said: “I supported her for nearly three years and gradually she regained confidence and got into college. The experience showed me the real power of personalised tutoring but also how shifting her mindset was as important as improving her test scores.”

After several years teaching and tutoring in Canada, Mr Marchese moved to London and began exploring ways to bring the same student-led approach to his new community.

He said: “Northwest London has such a mix of schools, backgrounds and learning needs – it felt like the right place to build something that really reflects the diversity of how children learn.”

Tutor Doctor is known across the UK for supporting schools and families with one-to-one tuition tailored to individual needs. Its tutors help pupils close learning gaps, prepare for exams, and improve confidence.

The service now operates across Camden, Brent, Kensington, and Chelsea.

Mr Marchese said: “Tutoring found me long before running a business ever crossed my mind. It sparked a real passion for helping young people succeed, and with Tutor Doctor Camden we can achieve exactly that.

“I want to build something that genuinely helps students, schools, and families alike, and feels like a positive part of the communities we’re fortunate enough to serve – it might take me a while to be able to call myself a local though.”
