The 35-year-olds named their venture Kanazawa after Takashi’s home city in Japan, which is famous for its traditional cuisine.
And their cream-coloured van has become a familiar sight at Coal Drops Yard’s weekend Lower Stable Street Market.

But they have just proudly thrown open the doors of a small bakery in Islington Green selling Original Curry Bread, Shokupan (Japanese milk bread) coffee and matcha.
Japanese curry bread is a street food snack with curried mince and veg simmered for more than eight hours, fluffy on the inside and coated in panko breadcrumbs and deep fried for a crispy exterior.
The bakery also sells veggie and vegan versions along with cheese curry bread and sausage curry bread.

And for a sweet treat they offer nama doughnuts made from a brioche style dough and filled with the likes of Earl Grey, chocolate and matcha-flavoured cream – or even savoury flavours such as tuna mayo and cream cheese.
Posting on Instagram they say: “Nama Doughnuts are known for their incredibly soft, moist, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Light, gentle in sweetness, and carefully made — perfect with a special sweet after curry bread.”

The business was founded in 2023 and also runs a pop-up at Nagare Coffee shop in Brushfield Street, Spitalfields.
They add: “When almost no one in London knew about curry bread, we started as a small stall with one wish – to give something back to the country that welcomed us through the flavours of Japan.
“Step by step, more and more people have chosen to enjoy our curry bread, and we could not be more thankful.
“Thank you for cheering for us, and we hope you continue to enjoy our curry bread.”
