Your calendar is not telling you a lie; it is still only October. So, why are we already talking about Christmas?! Well, it’s a fair question. But with Mayfair announcing the date of their Christmas light switch on, and Liberty having opened their Christmas store back in August (!), the festive spirits seems to have already arrived! Which is why we turn our eyes now to the Marylebone Village Christmas celebrations, a beautiful sight each year.
Marylebone Village is turning on the new Christmas lights display, with a wonderfully festive celebration accompanying the affair, today (November 9).
Merry Marylebone
The Merry Marylebone event will see shoppers on the streets of Marylebone Village invited to celebrate the streets being lit up with a new sustainable Christmas lights display, in support of mental health charity Mind in Brent, Wandsworth, and Westminster. The event will treat visitors to an evening of live music, festive activities, and more.
The lights themselves will be switched on as part of a celebration at 6pm on the Devonshire Street stage, hosted by BBC London’s Jo Good and an as-yet-unnamed celebrity guest.
Throughout Marylebone Village will be an assortment of festive workshops, market stalls, and plenty of late-night shopping to enjoy. There will also be plenty of Christmassy activities, including a Santa’s Grotto, a Ferris Wheel, and plenty more.
The 2023 Marylebone Village Christmas lights
The new Christmas lights have been developed, with the help of Blachere Illumination, with sustainability in mind. They are made 100% out of plastic recycled bottles, with energy-saving LEDs that will use 95% less energy than typical lighting. They will also operate with reduced hours, which “saves 58.2% more energy than if the system relied solely on street lighting schedules.”
So not only will they look wonderful, but they’re minimizing their effect on our planet too! What a charming, Christmassy thought.
The Merry Marylebone Christmas event takes place on November 9, but a series of special events and discounts are due to continue through to Christmas, the details of which are to be announced soon. The event runs from 3-8pm.
