It’s officially pumpkin-picking, creepy-crawly, spooky-scary season – and across the capital city, Londoners are dusting off their most frightening ‘fits and filling their diaries with petrifying plans. If scaring yourself silly is at the top of your Halloween agenda, you’ve come to the right place – because the most haunted boroughs in the city have been revealed, just in time for the spookiest night of the year. London is a pretty scary place – and not just during rush hour. Drenched in horrifying history, plenty of the city’s boroughs are well-versed in being completely and utterly terrifying. But which is the scariest of allI hear you ask? Well, listen up – because we’re about to tell you.
The house insurance experts over at Alan Boswell Group conducted a study to determine which borough is the most haunted. The research was based on paranormal encounter reportsthe number of cemeteries and memorialsthe amount of vacant propertiesand how many houses built before 1918 are in each borough. So, drum roll please – the most haunted borough in London is… Kensington and Chelsea.
Scoring a whopping 9.18 out of 10 on the spook-factor, Kensington and Chelsea has been named the most haunted borough in town. The swanky suburb is home to 11 cemeteries and 204,761 memorials as well as having had 10 paranormal reports. Kensington and Chelsea also boasts one of the London’s most famous haunted locations: Kensington Palace. Having quite the eerie reputation, Kensington Palace is supposedly home to a fair few ghostly figures, including Princess Diana herself.
City of London came in second place, with a spooky score of 8.94 out of 10 down to its 22 paranormal reports, 50 cemeteries, and 1800 houses built before 1918. The Tower of London and its dark history and plethora of haunted figures also added the City of London’s scare-factor. Trendy old Camden nabbed the third place spot with a score of 8.41 out of 10. Camden boasts a rather impressive 58,410 properties built prior to 1918 and is also home to King’s Cross – one of London’s most haunted stations.
