Rendering image of Surf London coming to Enfield.

It’s no secret that being a surfer in the capital is quite the challenge, with many daydreaming of being closer to the best surfing beaches in the UK. But that’s where Surf London steps in – an epic new surf lagoon where you’ll be able to shred some waves on the edges of the city.

This impressive inland surf lake has been in the works for over a year, but it’s just bagged council approval to completely transform North London’s Lee Valley Park. This means the capital’s first-ever, purpose-built surf pool is one step closer to answering the prayers of many local surfers.

Already making waves in Bristol, but known as The Wave, Surf London will be an oasis of well-being, leisure, and health, boasting its very own man-made beach that’s specifically designed for surfing. This incredible technology continuously guarantees the best waves possible, so there’s no need to check that dreaded surf forecast on your only day off.

Surf London gets approval from Enfield Council

Their Bristol location was the first inland surfing destination of its kind in the world, continuing their ground-breaking legacy by bringing their inspiring vision to Enfield with the companies Endless Surf and Crest Experiences. This all-new location reflects their unwavering success (pardon the pun), allowing people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to experience the thrill and joy of surfing.

Enfield Council’s planning committee has granted approval for Surf London’s plans, set to repurpose portions of Lee Valley Golf Course and the Lee Valley Camping site. The project is still pending approval from the Greater London Authority, but if granted, it will bring world-class waves, urban nature, and new recreation facilities to the heart of Enfield.

Speaking about the Surf London project, Hazel Geary, CEO of Crest Experiences, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the London Borough of Enfield for their support. We recognise that this is not final approval, and we’ll continue to work closely with the authorities to complete the application.

Plans for The Wave in London

They’ve also taken this opportunity to improve London’s access to green space, correlating the water and waves with a focus on biodiversity and beautiful green spaces. There are plans to create new pedestrian and cycle routes to and from Surf London, giving Londoners easy access to their brand-new surfing and wellness venue.

In Bristol, The Wave transformed the former farmland its built on with new trees, hedgerows and beehives, with hopes to expand this initiative even further at this brand-new London location, not only enhancing the local wildlife and biodiversity, but also celebrating it through conservation and protection.

As well as surfing, the area will also feature an activity zone, food and drink options, camping/glamping accommodationsyoga areas, and a lakeside park, making it the perfect staycation for surfers in London, active families looking for something a little different, and beyond.
