Sid James’s character has found out that his wife is running the rival Glamcabs firm
Charlie Hawkins: ‘You! So that’s it. Gor blimey. What a mug I’ve been.’
Peggy Hawkins (Hattie Jacques): ‘Charlie, please, I know what you’re thinking.’ Charlie Hawkins: ‘Good, then it saves telling you.’
Carry On Cabby (1963), which is less rude than later films, was the first to be written by Talbot Rothwell (the man who went on to write the memorable ‘Infamy! Infamy! line for Kenneth Williams in Carry On Cleo). Carry on Cabby starred Sid James as Charlie Hawkins (above, with Kenneth Connor as Ted Watson).
