London is in a difficult spot at the moment – it’s one of the safest cities in the world and still has profound cultural significance, both within Britain and across the world. It’s one of the biggest tourist cities in the world and is a major financial centre.

But, as Londoners, scrolling through social media can be an alternately depressing and infuriating experience. There’s no end to the negativity, claiming the city has gone to the dogs and that crime is rife. Even President Donald Trump is weighing in amid his attacks on Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, not least during a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

We’re not saying the city doesn’t have problems – it absolutely does, some of them rather pressing. But let’s be honest – a lot of it has been blown massively out of proportion.

To those of you feeling despondent, we have some hopeful news. London has been named the second best city to raise a family in the whole world. Compare the Market AU put together a list of cities and, as you might have guessed, Australia is rather well represented.

There are nine different factors in its calculations – safety, happiness, number of things to do with kids, monthly cost of living, national family benefits spending, national statutory parental leave combined, green spaces per capita, national child vaccination rate and national education spending.

While London struggled on the cost of living front, the number of things available to do with your little ones gave it a real boost. Only Brisbane beat London overall.

Auckland in New Zealand took the third spot, followed by the Finnish capital Helsinki and three more Aussie cities, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. You can check out the top 20 below:
