Sister wives star Kody Brown misses his older kids, but his recent comments about them make it seem like it’s all about him. Kody is often consumed by his patriarchal role. Even now, when Brown’s family is basically in disarray, he clings to the pieces of his “super dad” role by talking how good his older children made him feel. The problem here is that he didn’t always make his older children feel good.

With Kody, reciprocity is never a given.

Also in light of the fact that she obviously misses her kids, the fact that Robyn Brown is talking about her “nuclear family” sends the worst possible message. When he uses language like “nuclear family” that excludes some brown kids, he proves once again that he is has never been the sweet and pious person he pretended to be. He’s probably just the opposite.

Robyn doesn’t help Kody bond with his older kids

In fact, he might be sabotaging her

The real Robyn is a shadier thing – she’s competitive, she’s dishonest, and she’s manipulative. If Robyn thinks she’s in “nuclear family” and so are his children, which means the other children are on the fringes. If Robyn uses “nuclear family” terminology, isn’t it possible that the “villain” Kody does too? They tend to be a united front, and so it’s likely that Kody believes he has a “nuclear family” also comparing their “other children” to a lower class.

Compare the “nuclear family” to a planet. Other things revolve around it. It is demeaning language that reduces children to smaller planets or satellites. It’s yet another example of Robyn’s sensitivity. It’s bad stepmother stuff – words that should never be spoken.

Yes, he sure loves his kids, but when it comes to fairness, Kody often drops the ball. Blaming Robyn for the choices of a grown man is not necessarily wise. She gave birth to these kids, some of whom Kody is arguing with, and she has to treat them well. Kody wants his parents’ children to love him, and misses their love when he doesn’t get it, but not to the point where he’s in their lives all the time.

There is a touch of hypocrisy here, or even sleight of hand. If he loves them but doesn’t spend much time with them, seemingly enjoying the freedom he has with her “nuclear family” (to quote Robyn), is she really a victim? He loves to play the victim, but didn’t he choose this path? Didn’t he choose to distance himself emotionally and physically, and not just during the pandemic? Yes, he did.

Kody says he wants peace

But not at any cost

Kody is working to rebuild an image that has been massively damaged. Above, via Kody Entertainment tonight on YouTube, talked about her healing relationship with her children during a birthday post. Even though redeeming himself may be just a dream, he keeps trying. The thing is, Kody doesn’t necessarily deserve redemption. By cozying up to Robyn and their children, he has alienated other people, including his own flesh and blood. Kody seems to want love from his kids without putting in the work it takes to earn the love fairly.

Sister wivesKody Brown can’t cheat or cheat to win this love. It is something that comes from giving love, trust and attention. It’s about constant presence and caring. Kody needs to get closer to his older children, come hell or high water. If she waits much longer to try to restore her precious and fragile bonds with Paedon, Leon, and Gabriel Brown (and the other brown children she shares with other mothers), they may be irreparable.

Fans can stream Sister wives on the Discovery+ platform.
