Pretty much everyone reading this will have relied on a service at London King’s Cross Station at one point in their life. Sat opposite its trusty neighbour St. Pancras, it’s one of the busiest stations in the centre of the city.
Only this weekend, that won’t be the case, with the station shutting up shop to carry out signalling upgrade work. The first set of repairs have already taken place (on January 6-7), and now the next are due to commence on January 13-14.
Services by Thameslink, Great Northern, LNER, Hull Trains, Grand Central and Lumo will all be affected across the weekend. There will, however, still be London Underground services running through King’s Cross St. Pancras across the two days. Hull Trains are also due to run a reduced service from London St Pancras.
London travel guru IanVisits also did the digging, and found that there is an “extremely limited” rail replacement service in operation to compensate for the usual routes that have been affected. You can view an extensive list on what services you can expect right here.
As part of the work, the trusty squads will be making improvements to the trackwork and testing out new cabling and equipment to make everything run that bit smoother. At the same time (but as part of a separate project), there will also be works to improve the phone signal in the tunnels at King’s Cross Station, which is hoped to help up the speed at the start and end of journies when it’s always a task to pick up four bars and call the person who’s meeting you as you jump off the carriage.
