Shops in Kilburn High Road next to The Coopers Arms pub will now be turned into a new venue named the Food District – boasting up to 14 outlets and a central seating area.

Amarjit Singh Godami applied to change the use of the building at 172-176 Kilburn High Road which is divided into three separate stores; a homewares shop, clothes shop, and minimart.

Under the plans approved by Camden Council on March 6, the minimart will remain but the rest of the building – including space behind it – will be turned into a food court operating from 11am to 11pm at night, and until 8pm on Sundays.

The application explains it will sell “food and drink for consumption mostly on the premises”.

It says: “The proposed development will comprise a ground-floor level food court with up to 14 individual units preparing a range of foods.”

It added that with food vendors using the likes of deep fat fryers and charcoal grills, each unit will have its own high performing extraction canopy connected to a flue at the back of the building.

The application also detailed new windows and signage will be installed at the front of the food court.

The Food District looks set to be a sister venue to one already operating in Edgware Road which serves up a range of world cuisines from pizza to burgers, tacos Chinese and Indian food.

Locals posting on the Life in Kilburn Facebook page disagreed about the new venue with one writing: “Will certainly be an update to this awful selection of shops there at present. At it’s not another kebab or barber shop for a change!”

But another said: “I disagree strongly, the home stores shop sells some very useful inexpensive products.”
