Karla: I decided to join

would present its 18th season in Chicago, I decided to try this approach. I felt it made sense to get help from professional matchmakers and made myself open to the experience.

: What surprised you the most about the MAFS interview/screening process? Did it meet your expectations?

Karla: The screening questions were thorough and well thought out. I loved how personable everyone was through the screenings, casting and experts. Yes! They met my expectations.

Juan: I wasn’t really surprised by this

interview/screening process. I found it very thorough and detailed, which makes sense because marriage is a life decision. It met my expectations.

: What was the most important thing you were looking for in a partner?

Karla: For me, the most important thing in a partner is emotional intelligence and a desire for adventure.

Juan: The biggest thing I look for in a spouse is someone with whom I can share many things in common, such as culture, work ethic, family, and dedication to self-improvement.


: What three words would you use to describe your Married at First Sight experience?

Karla: Easy, enlightening and positive.

Juan: Fun, exciting and growth.

: How has your view of MAFS changed since you’ve been a part of the program?

Karla: My outlook is positive. The experience was entertaining and real.

Juan: Having never watched the show, I went in with low expectations, so I didn’t really have an opinion on the process. I wanted to be my truest self throughout the experience, so I decided not to watch any episodes beforehand so as not to form any opinions or preconceived patterns of behavior based on previous participants. What I know now is that if you choose the right approach and are mature enough to reflect on yourself,
MAFS
is a great opportunity to grow as a person and as a partner.


: Is there anything you would change from the way you were looking for a partner before you were connected to MAFS?

Karla: There are no changes in the partner’s needs.

Juan: I don’t think I would change anything. I believe the experts fit us for a reason, and I feel grateful for my experience. I would never ask God to change anything in my life, and I would never change anything in my own life

: What answer do you think led the experts to match you with your MAFS mate? Would you change the answer now?

Karla: I think our love of family and dance were the reasons for our match, which I definitely agree with.

Juan: I mentioned I wanted a Latina and that’s what they gave me. I wouldn’t change my answer!

Married at first sight airs Tuesdays at 8pm EDT on Lifetime.


Based on the Danish version of the series, Married at First Sight is a reality show/social experiment that gives singles the chance to find a lifelong partnership with one caveat: they must agree to marry a stranger the moment they meet. Experts provide advice and guidance as they help couples navigate their new marriage with an unknown partner, highlighting the newlyweds’ journey from wedding to honeymoon to starting their new life together. After eight weeks, couples decide to stay married or divorce.
