John Lewis recently shared images on Instagram revealing the retailer’s color of the season: sky blue. The post contains various interior details and accessories, such as bed chests, wallpaper, table lamps, vases and quilts.
If you want to add a splash of blue to your decor without redoing the entire room and without breaking the bank, throw pillows are a great way to do it. The two models (Scalloped Linen Cushion and Velvet Ruffle Cushion) tagged in the Instagram post is currently out of stock, but we’ve found two even cheaper options.
The first is the Textured Weave Cushion, on sale for just £15 and available in blue, yellow and beige. The versatile garment is designed with a simple hem and is machine washable.
It has a rating of 4.8 out of 133 reviews. One shopper wrote: “Great pillow, well padded, nice color, perfect and such a great price.”
“Great pillow to add color to my newly decorated bedroom, I bought two,” added another, while a third commented: “I love this pillow, the material is lovely and easy to clean. It’s also very comfortable, as it lasts the form.”
Although it was a good product according to the reviews, some customers didn’t particularly like its texture: “Unfortunately I returned this – loved the color (and the price!) but I found the texture rough and scratchy and plasticky. It’s a great value pillow but I just didn’t like the way it felt when I touched it!”
The other option is the £20 Gingham Check Cushion in Blue. It’s machine washable, making it easy to care for, and features a checkered gingham cushion with matching frill.
The decorative pillow has a rating of 4.8 based on 29 reviews. One customer said: “Love this pillow, so beautiful and perfect for my bedroom and great that you can show both sides.”
“Bought 4 cushions and was extremely pleased that they are reversible and have smaller squares on the other side. Good quality too,” reacted another.
There has been very little criticism of the product, with the lowest being a three-star review, but one person was disappointed with the quality of the fabric. They said: “The look was exactly what I wanted but was a bit disappointed with the fabric quality.”
Elsewhere, there’s the Frilled Stripe Cushion Cover from Dunelm. Priced at £12 and made from 100 per cent cotton, it also comes in yellow and grey.
It has a 4.7 rating from 19 reviews: “I bought the blue striped cushions after trawling the internet trying to find some. These are lovely, big enough to make a statement and look very stylish.”
