Jeremy Corbyn is swapping the political stage for the theatrical one as he joins the cast for something altogether more festive than his day job. The long-standing MP for Islington North will appear in a pantomime at the Pleasance Theatre in North London this Christmas, ready to hear your very best OH NO HE ISN’Ts.

Corbyn is taken on the role of the ‘Wizard of Oz-lington’ in the festive drag production of Wick Witcheswith Ellie Simpson, head of theatre at the Pleasance, saying the MP is “as much part of Islingon as the Yellow Brick Road is of OZ – so who better to play the Wizard of Oz-lington”.

It also comes as part of the Pleasance Theatre’s 30th anniversary celebrations, which sees them put on a pantomime for the first time in more than 20 years. Now, for those who thought it a little far-fetched for Corbyn to be breaking from his day job so regularly for the panto performances… you’re half right. As described by the venue on Instagram (where you can also get a sneak peek of the MP in costume), Jeremy Corbyn will appear in an on-screen cameo each night to get the audience of the pantomime going through the magic of technology.

Speaking on the news, Jeremy Corbyn said: “The Pleasance (theatre) has been at the heart of our community for 30 years, and local theatre like this deserves our support. Panto brings people together – it’s fun, inclusive and a brilliant celebration of creativity. It’s a pleasure to conjure up a little festive magic with the Pleasance in their 30th year. Local theatre is where the real wizardry happens – sparking imagination and spreading a bit of joy.”

The drag production of ‘Wicked Witches’ runs from November 21 to December 28, 2025, and you can book your tickets here. Find it at Carpenters Mews, North Road, N7 9EF (nearest station is Caledonian Road).
