JD Wetherspoon has adjusted prices on its bar and menus due to increased costs.
The pub giant, which has 814 locations, has announced an average price increase of 3% across its product range.
Wetherspoon said in a statement: “Most prices in Wetherspoon pubs have increased by 3.95 per cent from Thursday 1 February 2024.
“Some prices have increased less. Ruddles Bitter is up 1%. Bud Light lager, Stowford Press Cider and Doom Bar bitter are up 2%. Draft Pepsi has not increased.
“The average increase for all bar and food items is 3 percent.”
Chairman Tim Martin used the group’s January trading update to highlight costs affecting pubs and supermarkets.
He pointed out that in pubs labor costs account for around 30 per cent of sales, while in supermarkets labor costs are around 10 per cent, and as a result retail outlets can offer lower prices.
As a result of last week’s corrections, Martin noted the recent price increases:
“Wetherspoon’s costs, like most pub businesses, have increased significantly. We believe our prices will remain competitive even after these changes.
In its optimistic trading update published in January, Wetherspoon reported a significant increase in like-for-like bar sales of 11.8%, food sales of 7.9% and room sales of 3.1%.
Last month the company unveiled a £2.3m pub near London’s Euston station and entered into an exclusive commercial partnership with Haven to establish pubs in its holiday parks.
