A house on Lower Morden Lane decorated in Christmas lights including snowmen, reindeer and a teddy bear

Christmas markets, festive concerts, ice rinks—there are loads of things to do in London this Christmas. But step just beyond the city centre and you’ll find festive fun in abundance, like the enchanting Christmas light display along Lower Morden Lane. Just an hour from central London, this spot has earned the nickname “the Christmas street”, rivalling the festive sparkle of Regent Street and Oxford Street during the Christmas season.

Lower Morden Lane Christmas lights 2025: a festive winter wonderland near central London

Local resident Sylvia Queenborough first came up with the idea over 25 years ago to raise money for St Raphael’s Hospice. Since then, her vision has grown into one of the most popular Christmas light displays in London, raising over £250,000 for charity. This year, the full light display is expected to kick off on 1 December and run until 1 January (or whenever the locals decide to pull the plug).

If you’re a first timer, a good place to start the unofficial Christmas lights tour is from Epson Road. Starting there, walk down Lower Morden Lane and you’ll see displays featuring snowmen, polar bears, inflatable Christmas trees, reindeer and more. Continue on towards the Morden Brook pub and you’ll see even more striking displays including candy canes, an army of Santas and a giant penguin lovingly referred to by locals as “pingoo”.

On Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st December from 4pm to 7pm, Santa Claus is set to make an appearance on the street too. Each weekend, friendly volunteers usually come by with buckets to collect cash donations for charities like St Raphael’s Hospice.

More things to do in London this Christmas

Looking for more festive things to do closer to London? The city’s packed with tried-and-tested Christmas activities, from exploring Christmas markets like Winter Wonderland to checking out the Christmas lights on Oxford Street.

But if you’re on the hunt for something a little more unique this winter, Candlelight is hosting a series of classical Christmas concerts filled with festive cheer. Catch tributes to soundtracks to Christmas movies like Home Alone and Love Actually as well as concerts dedicated to classic festive hits from “Jingle Bells” to “Last Christmas” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You”.
