Emily in Paris Season 4, Episode 2 introduces Genevieve (Thalia Besson), Emily’s (Lily Collins) new rival both at work and in romance.
Genevieve enters the world of the Netflix series in episode 6 as Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) stepdaughter and Laurent’s (Arnaud Binard) daughter from New York who goes to Paris for a job interview at Vogue Paris.
She moves in with Sylvie (much to her dismay), and an unexpected phone call leads to Genevieve being part of Agenca Grateau instead, making Emily her toughest competitor at work.
Genevieve’s Real Plans in Emily in Paris Season 4 Explained
One of the most interesting stories Emily in Paris Season 4, Episode 2 revolves around Genevieve and her ulterior motives to possibly make it to the top.
Although he seems cool and laid-back at first, the series slowly peels back his true nature, starting with his desire to steal Gabriel away from Emily.
In Season 4, Episode 7, Emily and Genevieve immediately form a strong bond as they are the only Americans working at Agenca Grateau.
However, it is soon revealed that Genevieve’s big plan is to be like Emily and stir up more drama, stopping at nothing to get everything she has, even Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).
Genevieve’s evil intentions are revealed during a video shoot at Gabriel’s restaurant, where she translates what Gabriel said to Emily into French and lies to her that she doesn’t want to see him anymore.
Later that night, Emily and Mindy (Ashley Park) see Genevieve and Gabriel drinking at her restaurant, confirming her betrayal of her former friend and co-worker.
How Genevieve Causes More Trouble for Emily in Paris Season 4
In addition to stealing Gabriel away from Emily, Genevieve also slightly betrays Sylvie by lying that she doesn’t know French because she can easily translate what Gabriel said to Emily during their heated confrontation.
She also casually reveals to Sylvie that Laurent stays with her mother whenever she’s in New York, leading Sylvie to go on a mini-revenge spree by flirting and sleeping with other men in several episodes.
At work, Genevieve also stumbles into Emily’s client’s pitch meeting and throws an idea out of the blue without Emily’s consent.
While Emily did this to Julien and Luc’s clients in previous seasons, the difference here is that she only does it with good intentions and not proactively maliciously, unlike Genevieve who does the opposite and wants to take the spotlight.
It’s clear that something is seriously wrong with Genevieve, and she has a mean-girl vibe and a self-absorbed attitude that proves she’s the real villain of Emily’s story in Season 4.
I hope Emily gets her act together soon and returns to Genevieve in a possible Season 5.
Emily in Paris Season 4 is now streaming on Netflix.
