I’m having trouble understanding why The Golden Bachelor director Joan Vassos is willing to give up so much to be with Chock Chapple, including the comfort of her family. The Golden Bachelor season 1 aired from mid-September 2024 to mid-November 2024. There were nine episodes in total. Joan’s season was filmed in July 2024. After narrowing down her search for love to four men, Jordan Heller, Chock, Pascal Ibgui and Guy Gansert, Joan sent Jordan home and Pascal eliminated himself. Joan dated Guy and Chock in Tahiti, but ended up going with Chock.

Chock was Joan’s frontrunner among her 24 competitors The Golden Bachelor season. He protested strongly to Joan, assuring her that their visions of the future were aligned. Chock proposed to Joan during the final rose ceremony and Joan accepted. After the season aired, Joan and Chock stepped into the media spotlight as an engaged couple. I feel like it’s happened since then Joan made a lot of concessions, which led to disarray with her family and personal wishes.

Joan Is Bending To Chock’s Wishes

Joan makes sacrifices

Joan, 62, is from Maryland, while Chock, 61, is from Kansas. Ingress The Golden BachelorJoan, a widow, described wanting a man who fits into life and family life easily. Joan is a mother of four and grandmother of two. She hosts a family dinner at her home once a week and has described it family time is extremely important to him. End The Golden Bachelor Being engaged to Chock meant she entered into a long distance relationship that saw her away from her family for longer than I know she would like.

To be with Chock, who has two children, I’ve seen Joan make sacrifices.

The number one sacrifice is that Joan’s time is scattered, and I feel like she’s choosing to uproot her life to spend more time with Chock.

In an Entertainment tonight In the interview, I watched Joan communicate that she and Chock were going to split their time between Maryland and Kansas, and that they were planning on buying a home in New York City to spend more quality time together.

I think ideally Joan would have wanted Chock to fit into her life better. I’ve seen Joan bow to Chock’s intransigence on this front and settle for spending most of her time in NYC away from her family. Chock has historically not been the most reliable partner. Chock divorced his first wife and had a long engagement that never culminated in marriage with his second partner, which is a huge red flag for me. I see Joan giving up the most to be with Chock and it’s not where she envisioned her future going Golden experience.

Joan doesn’t put her family first

“A little harder right now”

Joan’s family doesn’t seem to be sold on Chock. When Joan tried to reunite her families during the holidays, she described times a “A little harder right now.” I think it speaks to Joan’s children’s reluctance to let Chock into their lives, knowing he wants to take her to a different space most of the time. Also, two of Joan’s children were not there in Tahiti to meet and ask Chocki, and the two who were there expressed concern about Chocki’s intentions.

I’m sure after seeing Joan’s post-show actions and behavior with Chock that Joan puts Chock before her family.

I think Joan is losing herself in her relationship with Chock and it’s hard to watch.

I think Joan is excited to find love again, but I think Chock’s persuasive methods to keep her desire for their life together under his control is something Joan’s family is not happy about because Chock takes up most of Joan’s time.

What does 2025 hold for Joan, Chock and their families?

Are they all spending more time together?

Joan went to Kansas over the new year and spent time with Chock and his family, although the goal was for both of their families to be together. I see the absence of Joan’s family as speaking volumes for that perception their relationship doesn’t work out the way Joan imaginedand that doesn’t bode well for Joan and Chock’s future. The Golden Bachelor may have brought Joan and Chock together, but with Joan giving up so much and her family not outwardly supporting the connection, I don’t think their relationship will last.

The Golden Bachelor season 1 is available to stream on Hulu.
