Married at first sight season 18 couple Ikechi Ojoré and Emem Obot have blamed each other for the breakup of their marriage, but Emem is the one who has been condemned after the latest episode. Ikechi is a 41-year-old College Counselor. Season 18 is actually the second time he’s applied to the series. He applied earlier Married at first sight season 13 in his native Houston. Emem is a 35-year-old nurse who owns her own pharmaceutical company. Ikechi and Ememi initially had chemistry at the altar and had a crush on each other on their honeymoon.

Since then, their marriage has unraveled into an abusive and ugly divorce with ripple effects. Ikechi and Emem are involved Married at Fist Sight season 18 from four other couples, Karla Juarez and Juan Franco, Madison Myers and Allen Slovick, Camille Parsons and Thomas, and Michelle Tomblin and David Trimble. Michelle and David seemed like the ones who would end their relationship first because Michelle had a deep disdain for what David stood for. However, they have stayed through the process while Ikechi has avoided working, which has led to his and Ememi’s breakup immediately after one month’s birthday.

Ikechi called Ememi “aggressive”

Emem was injured

After returning from their honeymoon in Mexico and settling into their new shared apartment, Lifelong‘s Ikechi badmouthed Ememi. Ikechi didn’t like the way Emem questioned him while trying to get to know him better. He kept saying, “I Don’t Know You” and called him “aggressive.” During the housewarming party, Ememi’s friends and family asked Ikechi and Ememi to describe each other in five words. Emem used positive emotions while Ikechi reiterated that he thought Emem was “aggressive.”

From there, their marriage went downhill as Emem described that Ikechi voted out with her at a dinner they had off-camera and he hadn’t spoken to her since. They met MAFS expert, Dr. Pia Holec, to find out what happened between them. Ikechi came in hot and told of another aggression he thought Ememi was showing.

Ikechi says I have changed sex

Emem says Ikechi initiated physical contact

Ikechi came to sit with Ememi and Dr. Pia with an attitude that Dr. Pia quickly checked. As the trio dug deeper, Emem encouraged Ikechi to share what was really bothering him. She claimed that Emem was sexually aggressive and made unwanted sexual advances that scared her and made him feel like his boundaries weren’t being respected. Emem said it was Ikechi who made the first sexual move on the honeymoon by placing his hand on her crotch.

Anyway, under Dr. Pia’s guidance, Emem apologized.

“I came here just being who I am and it was too much for you and I can hear it now.”

From there, the couple agreed that they wanted to continue their marriage and that they would approach things differently.

Emem and Ikechi then had a park date where Ikechi was unappreciative and detached and Emem let him lead the stale conversation. Then on their one month birthday Ikechi called Emem an “a*****e” after he read their vows aloud. Ikechi left the apartment after this statement and was proven not to answer Ememi’s calls or text messages. During the one month anniversary dinner with the other couples, Ikechi showed up late and with a bad attitude.

He stormed off after being confronted by Ememi and the other couples and revealed more of his feelings for Ememi.

“The moment I said I don’t want to have sex with you, everything changed. Like he shut down. I don’t know him enough to say hey, let’s have sex. From day one he jumped on me.”

He used the word once more “aggressive” after that when filming Emem.

Emem thinks Ikechi wanted someone he could tear down

Ikechi tried to manipulate the optics

When asked during the group dinner what was wrong with his marriage, Ikechi said: “I have no peace in my house.” Furthermore, it is stated, “My wife makes me feel like crap.” The other couples were taken aback by Ikechi’s strong claims, get them to call him “hostile” and “defamatory”. When Emem confronted Ikechi about not hearing back from him after calling and texting him in the previous few days, Ikechi said he had received nothing.

Ikechi’s statement among the group prompted Ememi to leave the table to gather himself and call him a liar. On leaving, Emem said: “Damn clown. You bring me a clown and you get a circus.” When Emem returned to the table, Ikechi left. Speaking to the producers during his departure, Ikechi tore Ememi down more.

“I don’t have the ability to deal with immaturity. This is because of some kid shit. You want what you want, when you want it.”

When Emem returned to the apartment to find Ikechi’s belongings gone, she pondered.

“Ikechi is not willing to do the work. It is very insulting to be treated the way Ikechi has treated me especially because I have done nothing but try to understand him.”

Ikechi tried to manipulate the optics during the group dinner and throughout the experience, but it backfired on him. He portrayed himself as angry, manipulative and unwilling to compromise or learn from his wife. While Emem was in the bathroom talking to Camille, she made a poignant assessment.

“I think he was hoping he had somebody who was less trained that he could pull over. So he said, ‘I’m going to tear him down any way I can.’

Was Ikechi’s behavior at the anniversary dinner justified by Ememi?

Ikechi’s complete display of immaturity, unwavering desire to be unreasonable and cruel streak both towards Ememi directly and in front of the group was completely negative.

He made Ememi and the group feel contempt for him by becoming mean and obnoxious.

In her bathroom conversation with Ememi, Camille conveyed, “He’s supposed to be this woke black man, and you call a black woman aggressive, like that’s literally the number one rule.” In an interview with the producers, Madison called Ikechi a “charlatan.”

The whole group felt bad for Ememi and left the one month anniversary dinner with a grudge against Ikechi. They all agreed that Ikechi needed to work on himself, but he showed reluctance to do so. Emem was fully justified by Ikechi’s statements and behavior as he took the highway and reminded the group that he “I never called him by anything but his name” as he had done to her. Ikechi disgraces himself Married at first sight season 18 when Emem clears himself of all wrongdoing.

Married at first sight airs Tuesdays at 8pm EST on Lifetime.
