Ikea has opened its first independent restaurant next to its Hammersmith store in London.
The stand-alone Ikea restaurant in Hammersmith, formerly a Wasabi site, has been redesigned to seat 75 people. It offers a selection of Swedish dishes such as Ikea’s iconic meatballs.
Shoppers can enjoy favorites such as Ikea’s famous meatballs at £5.50, as well as other options such as fish and chips at £6.95 and penne pasta with tomato sauce at £2.95.
For early risers, Ikea’s Hammersmith restaurant offers affordable breakfast options, including a six-course cooked breakfast for just £2.75 or a nine-course breakfast for £3.75.
This separate dining area marks Ikea’s first foray into a restaurant in the UK, a departure from its usual canteen-style eateries.
“We know how much our customers love an Ikea restaurant and we’re thrilled to be celebrating the opening of our first high street restaurant,” said Matthew Gould, Market Director, Ikea London City.
“Fans of our delicious food can load up on the famous Swedish meatballs during their shopping trip, have a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break with coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street.
Ikea’s launch comes as Ikea plans to expand across the UK to make it accessible to even more shoppers. Ikea has deployed more than 100 mobile collection points in Tesco stores, making it easier for shoppers across the UK to collect orders, with plans to double this network to 200 collection points.
Two new stores are set to open in the former Topshop store on London’s Oxford Street and Brighton’s Churchill Square shopping centre.
