The Mundo Pixar Experience brings childhood favourites to life
Imagine stepping inside a life-sized set of one of your favourite Pixar films. Well, you can do exactly that at London’s Mundo Pixar experience, which transports you to a multitude of themed rooms from Toy Story and Coco to Monsters Inc. and Up – there’s so much to see at the Wembley Park event.
With more than 13 unique Pixar movie sets to walk through, the museum offers a chance to relive your childhood or create long-lasting memories with newer generations. Be prepared to queue up for photo opportunities, which seemed to be what most visitors were fixated on, rather than taking it all in, when we visited on its opening day last week, Friday, February 13.
As we entered the giant warehouse, eager to get in and explore the rooms, we were greeted by friendly staff and guided towards the ticket desk, where our online QR codes were scanned before proceeding to get a cute family photograph taken.
Then, we waited in line for a large group to gather before being ushered into a room where we were told what to expect. Finally, we were unleashed to go and explore each individual themed room, but once you visit and leave a room, you cannot go back.
We became toys in Andy’s room with Woody and Buzz, ventured through the Monsters, Inc. factory and imagined speeding along the racetrack with Lightning McQueen. It all felt very real, like we were immersed in the movies ourselves.
It felt like a huge rush through the crowded rooms and, with us not being able to take our pram through the experience, our 11-month-old (dressed up as Sulley) was getting fed up of being held in our arms for the entire experience, said to last between 45 and 55 minutes but we completed it within half an hour.
Having said that, each room was designed with every single bit of detail taken into account. From the characters to the props and vibes, it felt like we were part of each film and it was a true joy to be able to experience that. My mini-me would be screaming with happiness.
In hindsight, it probably isn’t much of an outing for a baby to enjoy, but more tailored towards bigger kids and adults wanting to relive their childhood memories. It’s more a museum than an interactive experience, too, but it kept a smile on the kids’ faces, which is a win for a burnt-out parent trying to keep their child entertained this half-term.
Once you exit the experience, you’re taken to a gift shop with every gift you can imagine, based on each film set, but you’ll need a deep pocket if you’re planning to splash your cash.
Tickets are priced at a hefty £34 for adult admission and £22 for children aged between three and five. Infants under the age of two can enter for free (accompanied by an adult) but they must also have a ticket booked. A family admission, which covers two adults and two children, costs £28 per person.
