Turkish cuisine has always been my personal favorite, from the sweet Baklava to every Mezze. So when I discovered that a new Turkish cafe, Caramel Patisserie, had opened in Chingford, I had to check it out.
Established just a few months ago, Caramel Patisserie are dedicated to bringing the rich heritage of Turkish traditional desserts to London. At the front there is a lovely terrace and a mouth-watering display of cakes.
From the moment I saw the irresistible array of Turkish desserts, I knew I was in for a treat, but I didn’t expect my wallet to be as pleased. When I sat down to order a coffee, I was surprised to find a large cappuccino costing just £3 – something rarely seen so close to London.

The cup was almost as big as my face and the beans, which came straight from Turkey, were of excellent quality. They also offer Turkish coffee for £4 and traditional Turkish tea for £2.25.
Caramel offers a wide selection of pastries, cakes and baklava to combine with your coffee. There are many traditional Turkish treats to choose from, including a range of milky desserts which were new to me but looked absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying the Turkish Rice Pudding, Sutlac .
All cakes cost £4.50 which surprised me given their luxurious appearance and generous portions. My personal favourite, the Kunefe – a unique blend of Baklava and cheese (I know it sounds unusual, but it’s amazing) – is slightly more expensive at £6.50, but worth every bite.
Besides the sweet delights, Caramel also offers Observation a type of filled crepe filled with options such as cheese, spinach, potatoes or minced meat, all perfectly seasoned with Turkish spices. I have paid £9 for this delicious meal at the London street food markets, and I was happy with that price.
But at Caramel, Observation starting at just £3.50. I ordered the cheese version, which came with a fresh cherry tomato and cucumber salad, and it was so filling I couldn’t finish it. I ended up taking half home for a second meal.
The best of all is Observation is freshly made in the store and you can watch it being made right from your table!
When I got up from my table I saw a window where a baker was making Caramel’s birthday cakes. It was fascinating to see the cake making process, and the creations looked absolutely delicious.
To my surprise, the baker, Coskun Ozdemir, is a TikTok sensation with over 200,000 followers sharing videos of his cake decorating skills. With 30 years of experience, his expertise shines through in every detail.
I was really impressed with the quality and value at Caramel Patisserie. It’s rare to find a place that looks so exclusive but is still budget friendly. I recommend a visit soon before the prices inevitably go up!
